“You can't make anyone love you. You just have to reveal who you are and take your chances.”
— Sheldon B. Kopp
My approach
One of my first jobs was teaching people how to fly airplanes. My students came from all walks of life, and in various stages of their life. Lionel, a retiree from a nearby school, came to learn from me as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to fly. I taught Lionel to fly, and he taught me that it is never too late to achieve the dreams we have for ourselves.
I practice psychotherapy in a similar way; my clients are curious about themselves, and I try to help them develop insights that may lead to more satisfying and joyful living.
In my practice, I draw on my comprehensive training in eclectic, existential, relational, and psychodynamic modalities of therapy―but I believe the most effective psychotherapy focuses on developing fulfilling and meaningful connections. For this reason, I believe my mentor said it best: “the work of psychotherapy requires a trusting relationship that can sustain the warmth of connection as well as the heat that may be required for change.”
Although I specialize in many areas of counseling and therapy, my training as a sex therapist ensures my office is a space where no topic is off limits or taboo.
Currently, I provide confidential therapy services in-person at my office in East Lansing, Michigan or online using a secure virtual platform.
